Operations
During 2009, the Department of Fire Rescue responded to 130 working structure fires, 214 brush fires, 99 vehicle fires, 879 vehicle accidents, and 807 Illegal burns. Including basic life support calls, false alarms, hazardous conditions, and other calls, the Department responded to a total of 5,129 for the year.
Operations is responsible for fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, water rescue, technical rescues, and disaster response. The Operations section oversees 14 active fire stations that provide these emergency services.
Other duties include: developing fire pre-plans to commercial buildings, inspection of all fire hydrants, and providing a wide range of services to the community including blood-pressure screening, tours of firehouses and apparatus, and safety presentations within the community.
Above and beyond responding to emergencies, training, and public education to the business and public communities, all firefighters are responsible for cleaning and maintaining their apparatus, equipment, and the station.
