Our firefighters maintain their firefighter and EMS skills annually. Career personnel train daily and must accumulate at least 360 hours of fire training each year. In addition to daily fire training, career firefighters must receive 36 hours of EMS training, as well as annual hazardous materials, technical rescue, and radiological refresher training.

Career firefighters are certified by the State of Florida as a Firefighter II and EMT or Paramedic. Ten of the current career firefighters are trained to ALS Paramedic level. Career firefighters are required to possess current certifications at the time of hire.

All Citrus County Firefighters are required to be trained as a volunteer firefighter in the state of Florida within one year of joining a department. The Citrus County Fire Rescue Division provides these classes at no cost to the individual firefighter in order to reach State-certified volunteer status. Training is offered evenings and weekends.

Citrus County Fire Rescue encourages all personnel to achieve the Firefighter II and EMT or Paramedic certification; however, CCFR values all of our volunteers no matter what level of training they have.
