John was born and raised in Brooksville, Florida, and graduated from Hernando High School in 1992. John attended Pasco-Hernando Community College and soon found himself enrolled in the police academy at WTI in 1997. After participating in several ride-alongs, John decided to apply with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office to be a Deputy Sheriff. Deputy Novy patrolled the streets as a road patrol deputy until 2002, when he was selected to be a narcotics detective.

John was also continuing his education during this time and graduated from Pasco-Hernando Community College with an Associate in Arts degree, and in 2004 he went on to finish his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. John was selected to be on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Quad County Narcotics Task Force and worked narcotics cases in Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, and Sumter Counties, focusing on major drug trafficking operations. John went on to serve as Corporal and Sergeant of the Tactical Impact Unit (Narcotics), East Operations Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and West District Patrol Captain.

In April of 2021, the Patrol Division was restructured and John was selected as the Division Commander for the East and West District which also includes the Marine Unit, Animal Control, K-9 and Traffic Unit. John now serves as the Criminal Investigations Division Commander.

In 2014 John attended the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, Class #131 for the Administrative Officers Course, where he studied leadership in law enforcement administration. John also attended the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Executive Leadership Seminar and graduated with Class #9 in August of 2022.

 John also served on the SWAT team for 16 years as a sniper and Team Leader. John enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and cooking on the Traeger.
